Choices

God has made this place for us and put us here, now, for His glory. But when work is just wearing, the to-do list is just growing, and life just isn’t going as hoped … what then??
A few years ago I felt wrung out like an old washcloth and hung out to dry for all my family and the neighbors to see … I was just wore out.

One evening, like many others … when I was there, I just posted up in front of the TV and sat there for 4 hours, my wife sitting next to me. I don’t know what we were watching, even though I was staring right at it, nor do I recall what my wife said, even though I heard every word. I was poured out, wasted, and shutdown. Awake, but not present … in my own “Nothingness.”

I went to bed and was woken up about 4am asking myself, do I really want to do this all over again today?? And a voice said, “Will you let me help?”
Sure!, I said. Then I heard: “take your bible, go to the gym, and read a chapter while you’re riding.”
So, I did. At that time I drove in at 5am to avoid traffic. There was a gym in the basement of the building, so I went, and I was the only one there. I hopped on a bike and started reading Genesis, chapter 1. And 1,189 days later (3.25 years) I read through the Bible.

What I read revealed …

• A kingdom of darkness. A kingdom of light. These are my choices.
• Children of wrath, or children of God. These are my choices.
• Heaven or Hell. These are my choices.
• Life or death. These are my choices.

Choose today whom you will serve.
Declare allegiance to the kingdom of God.

Wake up from the delusion of neutrality and recognize that every choice moves us either toward or away from God.

J.I. Packer said … “Once you become aware that the main business that you are here for is to know God, most of life’s problems fall into place of their own accord.”

John, the apostle of love, understood this: He said … “We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.” (1John 5:19)

Colossians 1:15 says, “For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves.”

To opt out of the kingdom of God is to opt into the kingdom of darkness, even if we describe it as the kingdom of self. The kingdom of self is merely a small plot of land in the dominion of darkness.
Well, I thought … “I’ll follow God, but I’ll just stay neutral so I don’t offend anyone.”

Our culture lives in the spiritual delusion of neutrality.
It tells us that at each end of the cultural spectrum are extremes to avoid and the middle is where the sensible self settles in. But, C.S. Lewis reminds us: “There is no neutral ground in the universe: every square inch, every split second, is claimed by God and counter-claimed by Satan.”

I have chosen to stand on God’s ground. Will you join me?
