Giving …

This morning I was with some friends reading 2 Corinthians 8. I was struck by verse 5 which says “… but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.”

The context of the Chapter is giving generously, but there is an appropriate order. First give myself to God generously and abundantly (that is, every part of me, each nook and cranny) and then, according to His leading (or will) give to others.  Exactly as He leads. Getting this out of order is building my own ego and self-validation, rather than following God’s lead.

So what should I do this? Stay in constant dialogue with Jesus. Listening prayer and conversational intimacy.  Stay in His Word daily.  Share His Word with others so He can teach me so much more through the dialogue with fellow believers and through the process of preparation to teach. All the while with a longing to curl up in His lap just to hear Him say, I love you son.

Father, father me! Wrestle with me, hug me, correct me, giggle with me and mold me as you will.  Show me the way each day and continue to soften my heart to accept Your leading and to love those around me as You do.  Amen
