We continue our Acts study by releasing Chapter 1 today, “Acts – Backstory.” Acts was written by Luke, a Greek doctor, who converted to Christianity early in the First Century. Having written the detailed history of Christ’s life in the Gospel of Luke, Luke proceeded to document the history of the early church in the book known as The Acts of the Apostles.
Enjoy the “Backstory” and stay tuned, there is much more to come.

Be careful when you ascribe 20c rationale to a 1c person: “Being a rational physician, Luke, like an attentive judge ….” A 1c physician was just as likely to believe and leeches and “bad air.” He (as a doctor) had no tools, no medicine, except for plants and herbs, so “first aid kit.” He didn’t even have to go to school (there was no medical school to go to). We could, just as easily call him a witch doctor. What we do know about him, is that he was literate and I agree, he was “attentive” to details he thought were important in his narrative of Christ.
Thank for your note. A couple of thoughts …
You noted “What we do know about him, is that he was literate and I agree, he was “attentive” to details he thought were important in his narrative of Christ.” Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 3:16 that “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,” and there is more about this in 2 Corinthians 2:13 and 2 Kings 17:13-14. Luke actually wrote what the Spirit of God revealed to him and led him to write.

Before Christ, there were medical schools that taught diagnosis, medication, surgery. Today we synthesize in the lab natural compounds that are find in nature, plants, herbs, molds. The three modern wonder drugs are aspirin originally from bark, penicillin from a mold, and ivermectin from a mold. Check out the second paragraph under the heading “Introduction” in https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3043740/ Lists the 3 wonder drugs all discovered in nature.
