The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces. Psalm 119:72
Leviticus 23:1 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, ‘The set feasts of Yahweh, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my set feasts.
Sabbath
Leviticus 23:3 “‘Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation; you shall do no kind of work. It is a Sabbath to Yahweh in all your dwellings.
Just as God rested on the seventh day of creation, God designed mankind, made in his image, to rest on the seventh day. This is so fundamental to our design that he included it as the fourth commandment.
Every time you keep the Sabbath you are affirming that there is a Creator, that the world didn’t just happen, that life isn’t a meaningless coincidence, but that it is infinitely meaningful and therefore each of us has a unique significance and purpose. (Dennis Prager, The Ten Commandments, Still the Best Moral Code, Regnery)
Leviticus 23:4 “‘These are the set feasts of Yahweh, even holy convocations, which you shall proclaim in their appointed season.
Have you ever forgotten an important anniversary or birthday? Knowing that we are often forgetful God designed a calendar for his people to both teach and remind them of his mighty acts on their behalf. This calendar of festivals was a constant, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly reminder of God’s redeeming work. We should often reflect on the fact that God is sovereign over all of creation, including not only space/matter, but also over time. Our times are in his hands. Psalm 31:15
