In addition to the yearly festivals, the people also were to remember to worship and serve the Lord daily. As the people made oil for their lamps and bread for their tables, they were to also provide oil and bread for the temple.
The Light of the World
Leviticus 24:1 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Command the children of Israel, that they bring to you pure olive oil beaten for the light, to cause a lamp to burn continually. 3 Outside of the veil of the Testimony, in the Tent of Meeting, Aaron shall keep it in order from evening to morning before Yahweh continually. It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations. 4 He shall keep in order the lamps on the pure gold lamp stand before Yahweh continually.
The continually burning lamp looked forward to the coming of the Promised Messiah who would be a light for the Gentiles, that… salvation may reach to the ends of the earth. Isaiah 49:6. Of course this Promise was fulfilled by Christ who announced: “I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12
