Leviticus 23:15 “‘You shall count from the next day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering: seven Sabbaths shall be completed. 16 The next day after the seventh Sabbath you shall count fifty days; and you shall offer a new meal offering to Yahweh. 17 You shall bring out of your habitations two loaves of bread for a wave offering made of two tenths of an ephah of fine flour. They shall be baked with yeast, for first fruits to Yahweh. 18 You shall present with the bread seven lambs without defect a year old, one young bull, and two rams. They shall be a burnt offering to Yahweh, with their meal offering and their drink offerings, even an offering made by fire, of a sweet aroma to Yahweh. 19 You shall offer one male goat for a sin offering, and two male lambs a year old for a sacrifice of peace offerings. 20 The priest shall wave them with the bread of the first fruits for a wave offering before Yahweh, with the two lambs. They shall be holy to Yahweh for the priest. 21 You shall make proclamation on the same day that there shall be a holy convocation to you. You shall do no regular work. This is a statute forever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.
22 “‘When you reap the harvest of your land, you must not wholly reap into the corners of your field, and you must not gather the gleanings of your harvest. You must leave them for the poor, and for the foreigner. I am Yahweh your God.’”
Pentecost, which means fifty, got its name because fifty days after leaving Egypt God came down in fire at Mt. Sinai to give his people the law. Additionally, God promised to dwell among them within the holy ground of the tabernacle. This looked forward to the New Covenant when the Holy Spirit of God came down in fire to dwell within his people after Christ rose from the dead and ascended into heaven. Acts 2:3. Because his New Covenant people have been made righteous by the sacrifice of Christ, God no longer needs to dwell within the Old Covenant Tabernacle behind the veil of the Holy of Holies. At Christ’s crucifixion the veil of the temple was torn from top to bottom. Matthew 27:51. God now dwells within the holy ground of the New Covenant temple, which is the individual bodies of believers, 1 Corinthians 6:19, also called living stones. 1 Peter 2:5. We are the household of God being built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ the chief cornerstone. Ephesians 2:19-22. We now both live and walk by the Spirit, Galatians 5:25 who guides us in all truth. John 16:13
