The Coming Judgment
14 Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones 15 to judge everyone, and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him. 16 These people are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own lusts; they arrogantly boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.
Just like Enoch was a prophet to an ungodly people before the flood in Noah’s time, Jude wanted everyone to understand that Christ will return to judge the words and actions that false shepherds have spoken, taught and lived. Hebrews 11:5 It was by faith that Enoch was taken up to heaven without dying — ‘he disappeared, because God took him.’ For before he was taken up, he was known as a person who pleased God.
Revelation 20:11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
1. Grumblers: Do all things without grumbling. Philippians 2:14
2. Faultfinders: Did God really say … Genesis 3:1
3. Following their lusts: I Thessalonians 4:3-5 abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in lustful passion like the Gentiles who do not know God.
4. Arrogant boasters: Isaiah 13:11 I will punish the world for its evil and the wicked for their iniquity; I will also put an end to the arrogance of the proud.
5. Insincerely Flattering others for their own advantage: Psalm 12:2 they flatter with their lips but harbor deception in their hearts.
Galatians 5:19-21 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
