Job 42:1 Then Job answered Yahweh,
2 “I know that you can do all things,
and that no purpose of yours can be restrained.
3 You asked, ‘Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?’
therefore I spoke about that which I didn’t understand,
things too wonderful for me, which I didn’t know.
4 You said, ‘Listen, now, and I will speak;
I will question you, and you will answer me.’
5 I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear,
but now my eye sees you.
Job says, I came into this trial having been taught all of the traditional superficial knowledge about God.
I heard of you. v5
But now I have experienced God in a deep and intimate way. The Comforter revealed himself to Job.
My eye sees you. v5
Rather than second hand knowledge now Job experienced true communion with God.
A modern analogy today might be the difference between having friendships and acquaintances in the cyber world of social media as compared to experiencing relationships in the flesh and blood world of God’s reality.
Before God appeared on the scene Job had a measure of knowledge about God but after God appeared he realized that he could have a real relationship with his Creator. In fact, Job realized that he had never been alone. God always had been present and overseeing everything.
And now for present-day believers, God’s presence is amplified because Christ promised:
I will ask the Father, and he will give you another comforting Counselor like me, the Spirit of Truth, to be with you forever. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. John 14:16-17
The Spirit of God dwells in each Christian. God is constantly with you.
Do you not know that your body is now the temple of the Holy Spirit who is within you, whom you have received as a gift from God, and that you are not your own property? 1 Corinthians 6:19
For believers God is your “constant companion.” (Amy Loper, Constant Companion, Ambassador International),
After encountering God Job repented.
Earlier God had told us that Job had not sinned:
In all this Job didn’t sin. Job 2:10
So why did Job repent?
