Conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ… without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, and you will be saved – and that by God. Philippians 1:27-28
Of all people, because God has entrusted us with his word, Christians are to be clear in their thinking. Instead of uncritically conforming to the false teaching of Social Justice we are instructed to:
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2
We are to be transformed in our thinking, having our minds renewed by understanding and embracing God’s word. It is a high calling to think God’s thoughts after him. Philippians 2:5 Having the same mind as Christ. As a result of renewed minds we will understand the times and know how to answer the shouts of fools.
Christians are not to be confused in our thoughts or actions. We must think clearly, rationally, and logically, so as to reflect God’s glory as Lights shining out of darkness 2 Corinthians 4:6. We are to be effective ambassadors to a lost generation.
The calm words of the wise are heeded over the shouts of a ruler of fools. Wisdom is better than weapons of war… Ecclesiastes 9:18
Because we are made in God’s image all humans are, whether they admit it or not, religious beings. God has set eternity in our hearts. Ecclesiastes 3:11
As St. Augustine explained it: “You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until we find rest in You.”
The Critical Theory religion offers its adherents almost everything that one could want from a religion; a comprehensive set of beliefs, a sense of meaning and purpose greater than one’s self, camaraderie, a sense of community built on common understandings and goals. However there are at least five insurmountable flaws in Critical Theory.
First, Critical Theory distorts or ignores actual history.
As to man’s inhumanity to man, though by no means an excuse for any injustice, we must realize that every group has mistreated, oppressed, and enslaved fellow human beings through out all of history. For example history has shown that slavery has existed among all people groups throughout history. It has never been the vice of only a single nation or people. In fact there were thousands of black slaveholders of black slaves in the antebellum South, native Americans owned slaves both before the Europeans arrived on the continent and after the Civil War, and not only does the Quran command slavery, granting Muslims divine permission to control all of the African slave trade but the fact is, slavery continues to exist in Muslim majority nations today.
We could multiply examples, the point being Social Justice Warriors must purposefully ignore and whitewash all of human history to artificially justify their intersectionality doctrine. The Bible’s assessment of reality is correct, “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
Second, Critical Theory is an entirely temporal religion. It denies the Revelation of the Creator God, and embraces the idea that man is nothing more than the result of an accidental product of an impersonal cosmos: a random gathering of chemicals originating out of nothing by chance and ending in oblivion.
While Critical Theory is, by definition, a temporal religion, there are Christians who have uncritically accepted its teachings and have made common cause with those in the culture who have redefined and discarded God’s idea of equal justice under the law for all and replaced it with the new dangerous and destructive ideas espoused by Social Justice.
If you think that the church has not been seduced into embracing Woke, think again. Check out the largest Christian Social Justice group, faithfulamerica.org or listen to the teaching of some of the members of the Gospel Coalition.
And, of course there are Christians that are trying to appear socially relevant and inoffensive by adopting and using the language of Social Justice. While they may be using the same terms such as Social Justice and Woke the definitions that they assign to these words are very different from the definitions that Critical Theory true believers assign to them. As such these Christians, though well intended, throw their fellow believers into confusion.
In explaining the folly of Christians who embrace Social Justice, Voddie Baucham quotes the words of Inigo Montoya, “You keep using that word but I do not think it means what you think it means.”
Third, being a purely temporal religion, Critical Theory can offer no ultimate meaning for our lives. We can and should be thankful that they are trying to right injustices though we might disagree with their definition of injustice and their deceptive and violent methods. But they are doing this because, whether they admit it or not, they are made in God’s image. However, they are being logically inconsistent with their worldview.
Because all that exists is the here and now they may occupy their short time here on earth by seeking to right injustices or identifying with the victims of injustice. But if there is nothing beyond this life in a terminal cosmos, can there really be any meaning to our actions?
Fourth, having rejected God and His Revelation, their theory has no room for or hope of an afterlife. We are. We protest in a deaf universe. We die. Such nihilism has ultimately and inevitably led to totalitarianism.
Fifth, and after the above four flaws, Critical Theory ignores reality as God created reality, rendering Critical Theory both false and worthless.
Taking the above transgender example, biological sex, created by God as both male and female is real and immutable. It cannot be changed based on one’s delusional thinking. Further, genetics has determined that we are all of one race regardless of the amount of melanin one has in their skin.
In the ongoing culture war, so called Social Justice warriors have rejected God’s law, redefined the meaning of justice and will accept nothing short of unconditional surrender. They demand that we Christians become WOKE, meaning, by their terms, that we abandon the Biblical worldview altogether, and adopt their destructive definition of justice, Social Justice.
When you can have “your truth” you can also have your own definitions of words. -Phil Robertson
